Experiences and Human Agency: Community Gardens

A community garden can be defined as a place for community members to grow food on city or private land. It is a shared space and has been found to build bonds and reduce crime rates. In Vancouver there are over 4300 community garden plots located on city land, private land, and school grounds (City of Vancouver, 2016).
I went to ones near my home and found that there really are connections among community members. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to speak to anyone about them as people go there at different times. However, just by observing the space I can tell that it is well respected, maintained and appreciated by those who participate in them. Below are some photos that I took of a few community gardens.
